What it lets you finish
It can turn a chord progression into an arrangeable backing track and recast a drum part in another feel. It can align a live take to the grid and write tempo and key back into the session. It can split a stereo reference into vocals, drums, bass and other, ready to drag into the project. It can also give a finished section a rough mix and a loudness check so you hear whether the direction works. Work that once needed three other applications now stays in one session.
How it works
Built-in features are rarely one large model. They are small tools attached to the host: chord and progression suggestions read the project's MIDI and key signature, groove generation reads meter and style tags, while alignment and separation analyse audio and write tempo maps, markers or new tracks. Most operations are non-destructive, leaving the original and placing results below it. Some run locally; others upload audio to a vendor server, a boundary the interface seldom makes obvious.
Limits and traps
First, version lock. Features follow major releases and subscriptions, so a session sent to a collaborator on older software may keep its tracks but lose the tools that made them. Second, cloud dependence. Upload-dependent features fail offline, on long files or at unsupported sample rates, and the material leaves your machine. Third, complex material degrades. Dense counterpoint, freely paced playing and live ensemble takes all leave marks in alignment and separation that need manual repair. Fourth, it cannot judge. Suggested chords can be theoretically sound and still bland; feel, phrasing and structural choices remain yours. Fifth, local inference costs CPU and memory, and real-time monitoring adds latency.
Alternatives and pairings
For cross-DAW or batch work, use a standalone generator and import the result, at the cost of a round trip. To avoid host-version lock-in, choose a third-party AI plug-in, accepting separate format and licence terms. The most important pairing is a manual path: on critical sessions, bypass every assistant and listen again to confirm the music stands on its own.
First three things to learn
Learn three things first: whether each feature runs locally or in the cloud, how to bypass it for an A/B, and where to archive the original export. Then read the site's pages on DAW integration, stem separation tools and quantizing generated parts before deciding which steps to delegate.
