How precise the sync needs to be
A lyric video is won on the timeline, not the effects. Three common levels: manual cueing per line, importing LRC or SRT, and word-level forced alignment. Manual is steady but slow; subtitle files are quick yet need fixes at intros, interludes and repeated sections; word-level alignment highlights each syllable but stumbles on Chinese segmentation, melisma and stacked vocals. Set the precision target before choosing a tool.
| Method | Precision | Effort | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual cueing | Line, optionally word | High, listen line by line | Single songs, many revisions |
| LRC / SRT import | Line | Low, clean the timecodes | Existing lyrics, batch delivery |
| Word-level alignment | Word | Medium, proof every line | Karaoke-style highlighting |
| Beat-grid snapping | Beat | Medium, set tempo first | Rap, dense lyrics |
Templates start with frame and safe area
Vertical, horizontal and square frames put subtitles in different places, so choose the platform before the template. Keep captions clear of platform buttons and progress bars; the bottom margin needs more room than it appears. Fonts, motion presets and built-in footage all need commercial clearance; a good-looking template is not automatically usable. The chorus can change colour or scale, but constant motion tires the eye and stops people reading.
Rights come in two layers
Composition and recording clear separately: an original recording needs a sync licence, a re-record or backing track needs a separate master licence, and even text-only lyrics involve the writer. Platform fingerprinting matches the recording automatically, and claims and revenue attach to the video. Generated or downloaded backgrounds, templates and fonts carry their own licences; music is only one part.
Where it breaks
Chinese has no spaces, so break lines by meaning rather than character count; when one syllable is held for several beats, word-level highlighting finishes early. A repeated chorus invites timecodes pasted onto the wrong pass. Variable-frame-rate export shifts every caption by a few frames. Re-running alignment after a lyric change is the most common delivery failure.
Build a version you can revise
Sync the chorus first, then the verses, then intros and outros; keep lyrics as plain text plus timecodes so a template swap does not restart the work. After that, read lyric intelligibility, sync licensing and vertical scoring.
