Cloud versus Local Models
Cloud saves hardware and iterates fast; local keeps privacy and works offline. The trade is data and cost.

The problem
The same model can run on someone else's servers or on your own machine. Cloud means no GPU purchase, fast updates, but uploading material, paying by use and depending on the network. Local means nothing leaves the machine, offline work and a one-off cost, but expensive hardware and slower updates. The choice depends on how sensitive the material is and how the work flows.
Judging it
Start with the material: unreleased work, client secrets and other people's voices need the platform terms checked for training use before uploading. Then throughput: dozens of generations a day favours cloud, while occasional use rarely justifies local hardware. Consider latency: live performance assistance must be local. Consider collaboration: cloud makes sharing and version consistency easier.
Practice
Keep sensitive projects local or anonymise before uploading. Treat cloud as elastic capacity for peaks rather than a constant. Record what was uploaded and which version of the terms applied. For local deployment, account for power, cooling and maintenance time. Hybrid setups are common: quick local experiments during ideation and stronger cloud models for final generation.
What to listen for
In the folk tune, why licensing matters before upload; in the étude, the bandwidth cost of high-resolution material; in the hip-hop kit, whether local latency is acceptable. Choosing where a model runs is choosing where your data goes.
